Education,
legislation and public relations are the primary concerns in our industry.
Providing educational opportunities to help in daily work and enhance the
professionalism of the industry has resulted in seminars held throughout
the year (as well as the winter and summer conference). GPCA members are
provided almost free training as part of their dues to encourage education.
These seminars have included: fleas and ants, fumigation, business management,
termite control, regulations, rodent and roach control and many others. In
addition to the seminars, professional pest control technology courses are
taught. The six week course is taught by industry professionals. Graduates
from these classes are prepared to take the pesticide operators exam.
The winter
conference at the University of Georgia in Athens has traditionally been
an tense two and a half days program of education. In its 40th continuous
year, the conference draws speakers from all over the United States to bring
the latest and best technical information available to Georgia PCOs.
The summer
conference at a resort area provides the opportunity to learn and be with
other PCOs and their families. national speakers and special events
highlight this four day meeting held in late July.
Legislative
Day
Each year
the GPCA plans a legislative day, with a pre-legislative briefing for our
members. The Georgia General Assembly and our members meet for lunch to become
better acquainted. This informal gathering has become an important and necessary
GPCA function, especially since so many regulations and policies affecting
the pest control industry are decided by our local lawmakers.
