GPCA NEEDS YOUR ACTION BY FEBRUARY 13

You are likely aware of the current evaluation being conducted by the EPA for rodenticide active ingredients as part of the pesticide re-evaluation process.  A key part of the process is obtaining comments from the public and affected industry about actions proposed as a result of the evaluation.  This is where you come in!  EPA needs to hear from our industry about how their proposed changes will affect us.  GPCA is assisting you in this effort by providing the attached letter template.

EPA’s evaluation includes rodenticide products containing second-generation anticoagulants (SGARS), first-generation anticoagulants (FGARS), and non-anticoagulants as active ingredients.  They have proposed various actions related to the use of those products which they feel decrease the risks to human health and the environment based on the Agency’s evaluation.  EPA published these in Proposed Interim Decision (PID) documents.  The actions they are proposing and some of the impacts in Georgia you should consider:
  • All professional structural products will be classified as Restricted Use Pesticides (RUPs).
**Important to note specifically for GA:  Under current rules in Georgia, RUP use requires a certified applicator to be onsite to supervise uncertified technicians.
  • Cancellation of General Use Products (GUP) for control of field pests within 100 feet of structures.
  • Applicator requirement to wear a respirator
  • Chemical-resistant gloves with 14mm minimum thickness requirement
  • Mandatory carcass searches and reporting requirement.
The comment period is open until February 13, 2023.   GPCA is asking each of you to submit letters regarding the changes.  Some of the changes will have an impact on you, your business and your customers.  This is an opportunity to tell EPA about these impacts.  It is very important that each of you take the time and do this today!

The attached sample letter for you to use in drafting your own letter on your letterhead.  It was developed by NPMA and further revised by our neighboring state association in Mississippi.  Thanks specifically to Richard Linley who is on the NPMA SPARs committee as the MS representative.  Feel free to alter or change it in any way you see fit.

So that each letter is considered separately, you will need to enter your personal business information and the type of work you perform in the appropriate areas.  You can also enter how many registered technicians, certified technicians, permit holders, and license holders your company has.

Attached is also a three (3) page instruction sheet for submitting the letters yourself for each product under consideration; however, if you get your letter by February 8, 2023, you can send it to JD Darr of NPMA and NPMA will take care of submitting it.  If your letter is sent after February 8, 2023, you must submit it to the EPA yourself.
Thank you for all your help on this.
