New Law Enforcement Division Policy Statement

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has issued a new Law Enforcement Division Policy Statement on the subject of electronic trap monitors titled: Policy Number OIR. 

The purpose of the policy statement is to clarify usage of electronic trap monitors by licensed commercial trappers to meet the requirements of inspecting traps every 24 hours under the following conditions:
  1. The electronic trap monitor remains in continuous operation while in use and shall be able to provide trap status at least once every 24 hours.
  2. The electronic trap monitor shall be checked electronically at least once every 24 hours.
  3. The electronic trap monitor has notification alarms that report real-time trap information including trap door closed activity and trap door open activity within one hour after detection via email or text-based messaging systems.
  4. The electronic trap monitor has notification alarms that report system health issues via email or texted-based messaging.
  5. The electronic trap monitor has on-demand control unit testing capabilities for determining trap status, signal strength, and battery condition via remote system check-in.
  6. If the electronic trap monitor reports a system health issue, the permittee is required to physically check the trap within 24 hours of the last time a notification alarm was received.

Starting Monday, August 8, 2022 at 8 AM, GPCA will be hosting a 2 day long CRAM Course Event. This course can help you study for the state PCO exam. Instructor Jim Chase will host the event with 8 hours of HPC credit on August 8th from 8 AM-5 PM and 8 hours of WDO credit on Wednesday, August 10th from 8 AM-5 PM. This will also include Rules and Regulations. You will have the option to attend either one or both days of course instruction.
